Chad J. Harris of Sanford, Maine, was arrested Friday while on an Amtrak train that passed through New Haven with the assistance of Amtrak Police, said Connecticut State Police.
The case against Harris began in January when the Stratford Police Department received a call from the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office in Maine, regarding the sexual assault of a female juvenile, state police said.
The girl told investigators that Harris touched her inappropriately while stopped at a rest stop in Fairfield. The Sheriff's Office was actively investigating Harris for previous allegations.
After a lengthy investigation, it was determined that the sexual assault took place at the I-95 southbound Fairfield Service Plaza on Feb. 19, 2017, state police said.
Harris was arrested on a warrant out of Maine for sexual assault and risk of injury to a child. He is being held on $150,000 bond.
